RM Sotheby´s Motor City
Within the annual comparison this year's auctions stood out in several moments: it was sold a total of 79.5% of offered cars (62 of 78), and total sales amounted to 7.4 million USD. This auction at Motor City offers more relaxed atmosphere and cheaper cars that is usual, which is logical, because very soon begins a marathon of automotive events, elegance competitions, parades and related (big) auctions. Motor City is an opportunity to get ready for big auctions, strengthening social contacts and tune up for the next events.
Within the Motor City auction have not been offered exactly the brightest cars, which now break auction records, but rather generally older, often pre-war models, especially from the US production. The catalog offered a large number of Packards, Cadillacs and Buicks, and added a number of Mercurys, Fords, Chevrolets or Chryslers. An interesting pieces were some of the forgotten American models of Auburn or Frazer. Attractive mix was accompanied by some classic boats. RM Sotheby was able to combine the right cocktail of sellers, buyers and proper inventory – and success came. The main attraction of this year's auctions became Duesenberg SJ Dual Cowl Phaeton (serial number 2952, J-562) with bodywork LaGrande. It was sold for 852 500 USD (equivalent to approximately 21,1 million CZK).
In the Motor City, there have been offered especially rare pre-war American cars in beautiful conditions. They added a few European models, but everything revolved mainly around the American classics.
In the list of top ten stands a modern car as a Ford GT from 2005, which shows its potential and was able to get ahead of much more attractive prewar cars. With a total price of 319 000 USD (almost CZK 8 million), the modern sports car placed fourth.
